Petra Garajová

based in Barcelona, Spain
Petra is a Slovak designer, educator and researcher exploring the boundaries of material science, digital manufacturing and innovation. Over the years of her architectural studies at the Academy of Arts Architecture and Design in Prague, she has encountered different perspectives of “architectural” thinking. A better understanding of materials, new technologies and their artistic applications led her to Fabricademy - Textile and Technology Academy at the Fab Lab Barcelona. Her final project defines a new value of wool waste and reshapes the position of the designer in material innovation. Thanks to this opportunity she was part of Shemakes.eu European project as an Ambassador between Fab Lab Barcelona and TextileLab Iceland working on the Lab to Lab project - Rethinking Wool. Currently, she is working in Fab Lab Barcelona as a Fabricademy Local Instructor Lead and Textile & Material researcher.
The main focus of her research is to rethink the textile industry, textile production and soft materials through experimentation with advanced technologies. Using fashion as a tool to reshape the connection between nature, fibers and the human body.

Lenzing Young Scientist Award 2022
The States of Matter, material research has been awarded by the Young Scientist Award by Lenzing Group, in the category of the most innovative use of bio-based fibers. Also it was presented at the Dornbirn Global Fibers Congress (AT), 14-16th of September.
